Interstate or Long Distance Moving Company Information

A move from one state to another is called an interstate or long distance move. The charges for a long distance move are calculated based on the weight of your shipment and the mileage it takes to travel from your origin to your destination.

There are a few parties that will be responsible for different areas of your long distance move. They break down as follows:

The booking agent is responsible for setting up and managing your move. They arrange for all the specifics including services required, pricing, scheduling and will most often serve as your origin agent.

The origin agent will estimate the size and approximate cost of your move, provide pricing for packing materials and services if requested. They will be responsible for providing the manpower for the packing and loading of your shipment. If required, they offer storage at origin and they will be on hand to monitor the quality of service and the status of your shipment. They will further advise your van Line operator (driver) of any special circumstances to do with your shipment and confirm with the destination agent that all services have been performed to customer satisfaction.

The van line operator, most often referred to as “driver” is obviously responsible for the safe loading, transport, delivery and unloading of your belongings. Loading includes full service pick-up of items from inside your home and unloading also means delivery of your items to the interior of your new home as well. The van line operator will arrive at either location with the necessary staff to assist him in the task of providing exceptional service and a worry free transport.

Last, but equally important is the destination agent. He is defined as a van line representative in your destination area who can arrange for crews to perform services such as assistance in unloading for the driver and unpacking services, if requested. He also is in direct communication with the booking agent to inform of any concerns that may have arisen at destination. The destination agent can also provide storage at destination if there is a need.
